Close to Martin Parr’s gaze, these staged poses reveal both the absurdity of wanting to hold onto visible proofs of happiness. The frames create a subtle shift between image and setting, tracing a thin boundary between domestic space and the elsewhere.
The role of a « Marie-Louise » is to create a transition between the artwork and its frame, as these objects do, acting as a screen between the domestic space and travel. Here, the body performs the escape… without ever leaving the living room.
